Customised facial rejuvenation for men
The reasons for having facial injectables are similar for men as for women.
- Facial wrinkling in the upper half of the face – this includes forehead lines, frown lines and crows feet
- Peri-oral lines – often found in those who smoke
- Eyebrow positioning
All men must have realistic expectations of what can be achieved with male facial injectables.
Compared with women, men are much more likely to develop forehead and frown lines which is often due to an underlying stressful occupation.
Using a knowledge of detailed anatomy, the surgeon will inject using specialised thin needles into main muscles which are responsible for forming our facial expresssions. The muscles will become less active leading to muscle relaxation which leads to a reduction or even elimination in wrinkles. Angry, sad or worried facial expressions can be eliminated. This helps in creating a more rejuvenated look.. Botulinum toxin is a powerful neurotoxin and works by blocking nerve impulses to muscles.
During the consultation, you will be able to state your ideas, concerns and expectations about a proposed procedure and what it can achieve.
The oculoplastic surgeon will:
- Take a full history and perform a thorough examination
- Explain the procedure
- Provide an opinion on your suitability based on your needs and preferences
The specific issue of which injection technique to employ will depend on your underlying condition and the degree of skin laxity.
A surgeon can be either from a plastic surgery, ENT surgery, maxillofacial surgery or ophthalmology background. All four surgical specialities are fully trained to perform facial injectables
How long does the treatments last?
Facial injections will need to be repeated on average about every three to four months. The facial wrinkles treated will gradually more evident after six months.
Do the injections sting??
Only a very minimal pinching feeling is felt as the tiny needle penetrates the skin.
Is it safe?
Male facial injections are extremely safe with no reported complications in our practice.
Is is important that the facial injections are performed by suitably qualified surgeons for the best results.
How does it work for wrinkles?
The injections works by blocking nerve impulses top the muscles of facial expression. This relaxes them – leading to a reduction or elimination in wrinkles.
How fast will I see results?
It can take up to 2 weeks to see the full effect.
Are there any side effects with the injections?
Side effects are rare and are not permanent. There is rarely some minor bruising or a short-term headache. Most patients do not experience any side effects at all.
Do dermal fillers work in men?
A small proportion of patients will derive greater benefit when anti wrinkle injections are combined with a dermal filler to create a more rejuvenated look. The dermal fillers are used to create volume and fill in gaps caused by deeper wrinkles
Examples of dermal fillers include Juvederm or Restylane or Teosyal.
The dermal fillers contain hyaluonic acid which is a natural substance found in human skin. The injection areas will be numbed with a topical anaesthetic cream or even injections in some cases. Ice packs will be applied after the injections to help with reducing swelling and enhancing your comfort levels.
