BodyTite vs Tumescent Liposuction

Liposuction is a popular procedure. Most people have a general idea about it – it is a cosmetic procedure which removes excess body fat. It can even remove excess fat from the neck or create a six-pack.

However, many people may not be aware that there are numerous different methods for completing liposuction. Some of the more well-known and popular methods are known as ‘tumescent liposuction’ and ‘BodyTite’.

So what exactly is BodyTite and tumescent liposuction?

Tumescent Liposuction

Tumescent liposuction is a type of liposuction which uses a large volume of a dilute local anaesthetic like lidocaine or epinephrine. This fluid is then injected into the fat under the skin causing the fat to become swollen and firm, otherwise known as tumescent.

By causing the area to become swollen and firm, the fat can then easily be removed. Small incisions are then made, and thin cannulas are used to remove excess fat.

Once the excess fat has been removed, the surgeon will undertake a massage technique. This will help to remove any remaining liquids from the area. A compression garment will then be put on the area where liposuction was undertaken. This will help to avoid fluid build-up, reduce swelling and ensure you can achieve the best results.

On average, tumescent liposuction will take two to three hours to complete. This timeframe will vary depending on how much fat is being removed.

BodyTite

BodyTite is a type of liposuction which uses radiofrequency. The surgeon will make small incisions which will allow them to insert a cannula under the skin. This cannula will apply controlled thermal energy.

A radiofrequency electrode is placed on top of the skin and attached to the cannula. The fat cells are then eliminated and the skin is tightened.

This is a minimally-invasive procedure which has very little downtime.

What is the difference between Body Tite and Tumescent Liposuction?

There are numerous differences and advantages to each method. These include:

Body Tite

  • Minimally invasive
  • More cost-effective than other body contouring and liposuction procedures
  • Removes fat and tightens the skin
  • Can take as little as 15 minutes to complete
  • Suitable for those who have moderate levels of excess fat and sagging skin

Tumescent Liposuction

  • No heat is used; this means no risk of burns
  • Can take more than four litres out (depends on the patient)
  • The procedure can take two to three hours to complete
  • Skin will tighten after the procedure if proper aftercare is carried out
  • Using water will harden the fat making it easier to remove
