You’ve probably heard of laser hair removal. It is a technology which has been around since the 1990s, but since then has gained immense popularity. For those who are looking for a long-term solution for hair removal, it can seem like an attractive solution. But does laser hair removal actually work?
How does laser hair removal work?
Laser hair removal involves the use of a handheld laser which is used on the skin to remove hair from the target area.
Lasers use intense pulsed light to remove hair from areas of the body such as the bikini line, underarms, legs, arms or face.
Lasers are able to be adjusted to treat a range of hair and skin types.
At Centre for Surgery, we use Fotona’s SP Dynamis with Nd:YAG laser technology. This laser has a function known as FRAC3. Once the laser is in contact with the hair, the root will be killed, which slows down the regrowth of the hair. This method also ensures the surrounding tissue remains unaffected. You will notice hairs will start to fall out after two to three weeks.
Laser hair removal means you do not have to worry about any post-treatment care.
For best results, you will generally require multiple laser hair removal treatments.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Before undergoing any cosmetic procedure, you need to be assured that the procedure is actually safe.
In regards to laser safety, you’ll have to look at the technical features. This will be a good indication of whether or not the laser the clinic is using is safe.
Many lasers will have a built-in cooling system or will have a FRAC3 function. This will help to ensure the patient is comfortable at all times throughout the hair removal procedure.
Laser hair removal will also not cause any damage to the skin. The Nd:YAG FRAC3 is used to destroy the hair follicle but does not damage the surrounding tissue.
Before undergoing any laser hair removal, make sure you do your research about the laser which is being used, the clinic you are going to and the practitioner who will be performing the hair removal. You want to ensure the aesthetic practitioner has experience using lasers and is qualified. Research the laser which is going to be used for your procedure. There are many different lasers which can be used; not every clinic will have the same laser available.
Before undergoing laser hair removal, you will be required to have a consultation with one of our aesthetic practitioners, where they will assess your suitability for the procedure. This also gives you the opportunity to ask any questions you have regarding the procedure and the safety of the laser.
