Aqualyx involves using refined plant-based compounds which are injected into the body. Applying this to the skin causes the membranes of the fat cells to dissolve, resulting in the fat cells breaking open. The fatty acids within the cells are then naturally eliminated by the body.
Aqualyx can be used to remove pockets of fat from the chin, chest, abdomen, ankles, knees and thighs. It can also be suitable if you are wishing to achieve a more defined six-pack.
This treatment is best for people who currently have a healthy diet and exercise regime and are at a stable weight. It is not considered to be a substitute for weight loss.
You will be a suitable candidate for Aqualyx if you:
You may be unsuitable for this procedure if you:
You will not be suitable if you have a particularly high BMI. If this is the case, you may be suitable for other body contouring treatments, such as liposuction. If you have recently lost a significant amount of weight, you may be more suitable for procedures such as a tummy tuck, which removes excess skin.
You will be required to attend a consultation with a surgeon prior to undergoing Aqualyx treatment. The surgeon will be able to determine whether or not you are an eligible candidate for this procedure.
Prior to the treatment starting, your surgeon will mark out the areas where the injections will take place.
The water-based solution is then injected into fatty tissue in the desired area of the body. A local anaesthetic will be mixed into the solution to help minimise any discomfort. Generally, multiple injections are required at each treatment spot.
You will generally need to undergo multiple treatments before you can achieve the desired results. The number of treatments you need to undertake will vary depending on which area of the body is being treated. If you are treating a large area, such as the abdomen, you may require two to eight treatments. However, smaller areas, such as under the chin, may only require one to three treatments. This will also vary depending on how your body responds to treatment. Repeat treatments will take place six weeks apart.
Aqualix is performed as a day procedure, so you will be able to return home as soon as the injections have finished being administered.
This is also a non-surgical procedure, so there is a very little recovery period.
After the injections, you may notice some redness, swelling and bruising around the treatment area. Swelling may last for three to five days. You may wish to consider this if you are undertaking treatment on a noticeable area of the body, such as the face, as you may wish to take time off work.
To help with the swelling, you may wish to apply ice packs to the treatment area. You will not be able to take any anti-inflammatory medication for the first 48 hours, as this will counteract the treatment.
You will have to avoid any strenuous physical exercise for at least 10 days. You will also need to avoid any excess sun and heat exposure for three days.
You may feel tender for up to eight weeks after the procedure.
Aqualyx is a non-surgical procedure which dissolves fat cells from the body through a series of injections.
You will be able to have Aqualyx if you are over 18 years old, have a healthy lifestyle, are at a stable weight, and have been unable to lose pockets of fat from the body.
During an initial consultation, your surgeon will be able to determine whether or not you are a suitable candidate for Aqualyx.
Aqualyx removes the fat cells from the targeted area of the body. Once the fat cells are removed, it is very hard to for them to return.
However, after treatment, if you do not follow a healthy exercise and diet regime, you may find you will gain weight in other areas of the body.
Generally, you will need to have repeat Aqualyx treatments before you can achieve the desired results.
How many repeat treatments you need to have will vary depending on where you had the treatment. If you were treating a small area of the body, such as under the chin, you may only need one to three treatments. However, if you were treating larger areas such as the abdomen or thighs, you may need up to eight treatments.
Repeat treatments will take place six weeks apart.
Aqualyx is a relatively painless treatment. You may feel a slight pinch when the injection takes place. A local anaesthetic will be mixed into the solution to help minimise any discomfort.
Following the treatment, you may experience some itching or slight oedema, which will last from one to three days.
There is minimal recovery period associated with Aqualyx.
You may experience some redness, swelling and bruising around the treatment area. This can last up to five days.
You will not be able to take any anti-inflammatory medication for the first 48 hours. During this period, you may wish to apply ice to the treatment area to help reduce any swelling.
You may experience the tenderness of the skin for up to eight weeks after the procedure.
To help maintain results, you will need to avoid excess sun and heat exposure for three days following the procedure.
You will have to avoid any strenuous physical activity for up to 10 days following the procedure.
You may not need to take any time off work. However, if you had the treatment on your face, you may experience swelling during the recovery period. As a result, you may find it necessary to take time off work.
