Consultant Plastic Surgeon
Kerastem advanced hair therapy uses your own body fat and stem cells to regrow the hair.
Liposuction is undertaken to remove body fat from a donor area of the body. This is then treated to separate your stem cells from the fat. The stem cells are then injected into the necessary area of the head.
This method not only stimulates hair growth but also prevents future hair loss.
Unlike other treatments, this is a suitable option for women who are experiencing early onset hair loss. This is also available for both men and women who have alopecia.
You will be a suitable candidate for this procedure if you:
Prior to undergoing treatment, you will need to attend a consultation with one of our surgeons. They will be able to assess whether or not you are a suitable candidate, or whether you should undertake a different hair loss procedure.
Kerastem hair treatment is performed as a day case, so you will be able to return home once the effects of the anaesthetic have worn off.
This procedure will be performed under a local anaesthetic. You will be awake throughout the procedure but will unable to feel any discomfort. Kerastem hair treatment involves a combination of liposuction and fat transfer using the Puregraft system.
First, the liposuction will take place to take the necessary fat. This is normally taken from the abdominal area, however, this may vary depending on how much fat you have available. This method does not involve the use of any lasers or any heat. Small incisions will be made, and cannulas are used to remove fat from the donor area.
Some of the fat is then purified, while the remaining fat is put into a Kerastem machine. This extracts the stem cells, which then enriches the purified fat. This fat is then injected into the scalp using the state of the art Puregraft system. The Puregraft system is effective in removing contaminants from the fat which significantly improves long-term retention.
This process reawakens dormant hair follicles and causes new hair to grow.
This procedure involves minimal recovery time.
You may experience some redness, bruising or swelling around the area which the liposuction took place. You may wish to treat the area with an ice pack to help with any swelling or take any pain medication if necessary.
You should be able to return to work the day after your procedure. However, you may experience some physical pain for at least one week.
You should refrain from exercising for one week.
You will be able to see noticeable hair growth occur across the next six to 12 months.
