Platelet Rich Plasma Facelift, otherwise known as PRP facelift or a ‘vampire facelift’, is a new non-surgical method which aims to take years off your appearance and leave you looking rejuvenated.
If you are considering surgical options, Centre for Surgery also offers a face lift procedure.
If you do not wish to rely on a substance or undergo surgery to make your face appear more youthful, you may be interested in undergoing a PRP facelift.
A PRP facelift uses your own blood, which is then treated and injected back into the skin on your face. This treatment helps to improve the texture of your skin and can treat fine lines and wrinkles.
Prior to having the facelift, blood will be drawn from your arm, much like having a blood test. Next, the blood is spun in a centrifugation system, which splits the platelet-rich-plasma from the rest of the elements in the blood. Using tiny needles, or microneedling, the PRP is then injected into the skin in the face.
njecting PRP into the face helps to boost collagen production, which helps to produce new cells, and makes the skin appear more youthful.
A PRP facelift is suitable for those who wish to treat:
It is a suitable procedure for those who do not wish to inject a foreign substance into their skin. Injecting your own blood ensures you will not have any adverse reactions.
Those who will not be able to have a PRP facelift include those who have bleeding disorders, clotting problems or have a low platelet count.
You will have a consultation with a surgeon who will assess whether or not you are a suitable candidate for this procedure.
A PRP facelift is a non-surgical day case, so you will be able to return home once the procedure has finished.
Prior to the procedure, the surgeon will apply numbing cream to your face. This may take around 40 minutes for your face to be fully numbed.
A needle will be used to take blood from your arm.
The blood will then be placed into the centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich-plasma and red blood cells.
Small needles are then used to inject the blood into your face. As numbing cream has been applied to your face, you should not experience any pain throughout the procedure.
The PRP facelift may take around one hour to complete.
This is a non-surgical procedure, so there will be very little recovery time. You will be able to return home the same day and resume your usual day-to-day routine.
You may experience redness, swelling, dryness and bruising across the face as a result of the needles. You may wish to apply ice to the face to help reduce any swelling. These symptoms should pass within a few days.
It will take around four weeks for results to be noticeable, with the most improvements becoming apparent after six to 12 weeks. You should expect to see an improvement in skin texture and tone, as well as looking more youthful and rejuvenated.
