Varicose Vein Treatment Cost
Our prices for varicose vein treatment in London continue to be the most competitive in the UK. Most patients will have either endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) or foam sclerotherapy as a first-line treatment.
EVLA for first-line treatment
The initial consultation and colour duplex ultrasound scan with our expert vascular specialist costs £150.
We do not charge per number of veins treated but on a per leg basis. EVLA for one leg costs £2000 and EVLA for both legs costs £2500.
Follow-up treatment which may require touch-up sclerotherapy costs £275.
The total cost of varicose vein treatment in London for one leg is £2425 and for both legs is £2925.
Any additional treatments for thread vein and spider vein treatment cost £275 + VAT per session. There is always a safety limit to the amount of sclerotherapy that can be performed in one session and our vascular specialist will be able to advise you on how much treatment can be carried out safely in one session.
Foam Sclerotherapy for first-line treatment (EVLA not suitable)
If EVLA is not suitable as a first-line treatment for varicose veins then you may be better suited for foam sclerotherapy treatment.
The initial consultation and colour duplex ultrasound scan with our expert vascular specialist costs £150.
Foam sclerotherapy costs £500 for one session of treatment and may involve treatment on one or both legs. Patients will need to wear compression stockings after having phone sclerotherapy and these cost £65. The total cost of foam sclerotherapy in London is £715.
If you require a further follow-up treatment then any extra sclerotherapy costs £275 + VAT per session. A follow-up consultation without treatment costs £100 + VAT.
In some cases particularly in patients with large numbers of varicose veins, treatment may need to be spaced out over two sessions to permit effective vein clearance using repeat EVLA. Your vascular specialist may also recommend having foam sclerotherapy combined with EVLA for more successful treatment outcomes.

FAQs

Why does Centre for Surgery charge per leg treated and not per varicose vein treated? Our pricing model for varicose vein treatment is fully open and transparent.
Patients who have just one abnormal vein or many abnormal veins in one leg have the same cost of treatment. This is ideal for patients who have a number of diseased veins in one leg who can benefit from the peace of mind that their treatment costs will not begin to spiral. This does not mean that patients who have only one abnormal vein in a leg are being charged unnecessarily high.
The cost of treating more than one vein in the leg does not affect the consumable costs involved in a procedure as the same treatment packs are used regardless of the number of veins treated. The key variable which may change is the time involved in carrying out the treatment. However, we have found that the bulk of any extra time goes into preparing for the procedure and the after-care for the procedure on the day of treatment. The actual time taken to carry out the procedure does not vary significantly regardless of the number of veins treated.
Many clinics do charge much higher prices for patients with many veins needing treatment in one leg including EVLA. We have decided not to adopt this pricing model as we feel our prices are fair and reasonable for gold standard varicose vein treatment in London. -
What are the differences in cost between EVLA on one leg and EVLA on both legs? For patients who require EVLA on both legs, we do not simply double the price for EVLA on one leg. Although there will be extra costs incurred in carrying out treatment on both legs, the extra costs do not justify doubling the price. As explained previously, the EVLA treatment itself does not take a significant amount of time but the amount of time required for preparation and the after-care in the recovery suite is where much of the time is taken up.
We believe that patients should not have to pay significantly extra just because they wish to have both legs treated with EVLA. -
When could patients with more varicose veins need to pay more for treatment? In a small number of cases, your vascular specialist may not be able to carry out EVLA in one treatment session. This may be due to the complexity of the case and the very high number of veins which need treating. Your vein specialist may therefore recommend having treatment in two separate stages and this is where the price for EVLA on one leg will need to be charged again separately. This is a rare occurrence and affects less than 2 to 3% of all patients.
You will be told in advance at your consultation if this particular situation applies to you.
Foam sclerotherapy is a treatment that may need to be carried out in a number of separate sessions to work within the safe dosage limits. In many cases, it may not be possible to treat all the prominent veins in one session.
If too much sclerosant is injected in one treatment, the risk of thrombosis and other serious complications increases significantly. Your specialist will be able to advise you on the number of sessions you may need to have based on a clinical assessment of the veins on your leg.
