Labia Puffing in London
Labia puffing — also called labial puff, labia majora augmentation, or labial puffing — is a procedure that restores volume and improves the shape of the outer labia. Patients often search for it as “puffy labia” or “puffy vagina”; the structure actually being treated is the labia majora, the outer labial lips. The vagina itself is the internal canal and is not involved in this procedure. The labia majora can lose fullness over time as a result of ageing, childbirth, hormonal changes, or significant weight loss. The loss of natural volume can affect the cushioning effect of the outer labia — leading to discomfort during physical activities and intercourse — and can change the external appearance of the vulva.
Two options are available at Centre for Surgery: hyaluronic acid dermal filler (non-surgical, immediate results, around 9–12 months duration) or labia fat transfer (minimally invasive, permanent results, a smaller top-up occasionally needed). Both are performed at our CQC-regulated Baker Street clinic.
Labia Puffing at a Glance
What is Labia Puffing?
The effects of childbirth, menopause, weight loss, and the natural ageing process lead to changes in the female genitalia that can cause a significant loss of self-confidence. Women are often concerned about the appearance of the labia majora — the outer lips of the vulva — which can lose inherent skin elasticity and suppleness over time. Declining oestrogen levels can amplify these changes during and after menopause.
Whilst most women are concerned about the cosmetic appearance of deflated labia majora, functional symptoms can also develop. The outer labia functions as a protective cushion for the vulva, facilitating sexual intercourse and physical activities such as cycling. When the labia majora becomes deflated, sexual activity may become uncomfortable due to the loss of this cushioning effect.
Labia puffing is a type of vaginal rejuvenation procedure designed to restore fullness and suppleness to the labia majora. It is the non-surgical counterpart to labia fat transfer — patients who want permanent augmentation without repeat injections are better suited to fat transfer, while those wanting a quick non-surgical option with no recovery may prefer filler.
How much does labia puffing cost?
Labia puffing with hyaluronic acid filler is £1,200 per treatment at Centre for Surgery. Labia fat transfer costs more upfront, but is usually a single treatment rather than a repeated one; as with other labia surgery costs, its exact price is confirmed in a written, itemised quote after consultation.
How long does labia puffing last?
Hyaluronic acid labia filler typically lasts around 9 to 12 months before repeat treatment is needed. The labia majora are a mobile area subject to friction, so filler breaks down faster here than it does in the face. If you would prefer a one-off procedure, fat transfer is permanent once the transferred fat has integrated.
Does labia puffing hurt?
The treatment is performed under topical local anaesthetic. Most patients describe pressure rather than pain during injection, and mild tenderness for a few days afterwards. There is no downtime with filler — you can return to normal activities the same day, though we advise avoiding sexual activity, swimming and strenuous exercise for around a week.
What is the difference between labia puffing and labiaplasty?
Labia puffing and labiaplasty are opposite procedures and are frequently confused. Labia puffing adds volume to the labia majora, the outer lips. Labiaplasty reduces excess tissue of the labia minora, the inner lips. One treats deflation, the other treats protrusion. Some patients need both — reduction of the inner labia alongside restoration of volume to the outer — and this is assessed at consultation.
Why Do the Labia Majora Lose Volume?
The labia majora is subject to the same tissue changes as skin elsewhere in the body, and several factors can contribute to a loss of fullness over time.
Ageing and collagen loss
As with facial skin, the labia majora relies on collagen and elastin to maintain its firmness and elasticity. Natural collagen production declines with age, which can lead to a flatter, less supported appearance over time.
Childbirth
The stretching involved in vaginal delivery, combined with the hormonal changes of pregnancy and postpartum recovery, can affect the volume and skin quality of the labia majora.
Significant weight loss
The labia majora contains a fat pad that contributes to its fullness. Rapid or significant weight loss can reduce this fat pad in the same way it affects other areas of the body, leaving the labia majora looking deflated or wrinkled.
Menopause and hormonal change
Declining oestrogen levels during and after menopause reduce skin elasticity throughout the body, including the labia majora, which can accelerate the appearance of volume loss.
Genetics
Some women are more predisposed than others to earlier or more pronounced changes in labial volume, independent of age, weight or childbirth history.
Why diet and exercise don’t address this
A healthy diet and regular exercise support overall health and can tone the pelvic floor muscles, but they have limited effect on the specific fat and skin changes described above. The labia majora’s structure means these changes are not something general fitness can reverse.
The functional impact
Beyond appearance, the labia majora acts as a natural cushion for the vulva during physical activity and intercourse. When it loses volume, some women notice reduced comfort during exercise or intimacy, in addition to the change in outward appearance. This functional aspect is a legitimate reason to seek treatment, alongside cosmetic preference.
What Are the Benefits of Labia Puffing?

Labia puffing provides significant benefits for women seeking to improve the appearance and function of the labia majora. The treatment safely and effectively restores volume and shape, producing a more rounded and youthful appearance while restoring the natural cushioning effect of the outer labia.
Soft tissue laxity can also affect the labia minora — causing the inner lips to appear enlarged. The best treatment for this is labiaplasty surgery. Labia puffing addresses deflated labia majora and can complement labiaplasty where both the inner and outer labia are a concern.
The benefits of labia puffing include improved self-confidence, relief from pain and discomfort during exercise or intercourse, and a more youthful external appearance. Women who want a permanent augmentation without repeat filler sessions can achieve this with labia fat transfer — a one-off procedure using the patient’s own fat.
Am I Suitable for Labia Puffing?
Labia puffing is suitable for women wishing to restore volume to the labia majora without surgery. Suitability is confirmed at consultation.
Volume loss in the labia majora
Women who have noticed a decrease in fullness due to ageing, hormonal changes, weight loss, or childbirth are the primary candidates. Reduced fullness can cause self-consciousness and physical discomfort.
Preference for a non-surgical approach
Labia puffing with filler is ideal for patients wanting immediate, non-surgical results with no recovery time. If a more permanent result is preferred — without repeat injections — labia fat transfer using the patient’s own fat is the more appropriate option.
Realistic expectations
Filler results last around 9 to 12 months and require top-up injections to maintain. Fat transfer results are permanent but involve a recovery period. Both options will be explained at consultation so you can make an informed decision.
Good general health
Candidates should be in good general health. Certain conditions affecting bleeding or wound healing may affect suitability — your clinician will assess this at consultation.
Comfort alongside aesthetic improvement
Patients experiencing irritation, chafing, or discomfort during physical activities due to a lack of labial volume can also benefit from labia puffing as a functional as well as cosmetic treatment.
How Is Labia Puffing Done? The Labia Filler Procedure
There are two main techniques for labia puffing at Centre for Surgery. The non-surgical option uses hyaluronic acid dermal filler. The minimally invasive surgical option uses fat transfer (autologous fat grafting), removing excess fat from another part of the body — such as the tummy, flanks or inner thighs — before injecting it into the labia majora.
Labia puffing with dermal fillers

We prefer to use Desirial dermal fillers for labia puffing, which have an excellent track record of safety and effectiveness for labial augmentation. At consultation, your clinician will recommend the most appropriate filler product for your anatomy and goals. Only hyaluronic acid-based fillers are used — hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the human body and the risk of allergic reaction is extremely rare.
Filler treatment takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes. A topical anaesthetic is applied, with injected local anaesthetic if needed, before a precise amount of filler is introduced for volume enhancement. Results are visible immediately and you can return to normal activities the same day. Dermal fillers for labia puffing last around 9 to 12 months and will require top-up injections to maintain results. £1,200 per treatment.
Labia puffing with fat transfer
For a permanent result without repeat injections, labia fat transfer is the preferred option. Fat is harvested from the tummy, flanks or inner thighs, processed to remove impurities, and injected into the labia majora using specialised cannulas. The fat comes from your own body, so there is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction. About 30 to 50% of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed, so the surgeon deliberately over-injects to compensate. The remaining fat produces natural-feeling, permanent results. A smaller top-up is occasionally needed. The exact price is confirmed in a written, itemised quote after consultation.
What Can Labia Puffing Be Combined With?
Labia puffing addresses volume loss in the outer labia. Many patients have additional or related concerns that can be treated in the same session or alongside their labia puffing treatment.
Labia fat transfer
For patients who want permanent labia majora augmentation without repeat filler sessions, labia fat transfer uses the patient’s own fat harvested from the tummy, flanks or inner thighs and injected into the labia majora. Results are permanent and natural-feeling. Fat transfer is the long-term alternative to filler — many patients choose filler initially and progress to fat transfer for a permanent solution.
Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty reduces excess tissue from the labia minora — the inner vaginal lips. It is particularly beneficial for women who experience irritation or discomfort due to the size of their labia minora. Labiaplasty can be performed in combination with labia puffing where both the inner and outer labia are a concern, addressing them in a single session.
Vaginal laser treatments
Fotona SMOOTH® vaginal laser treatments — including IntimaLase for tightening, RenovaLase for vaginal dryness and atrophy, and IncontiLase for stress urinary incontinence — can complement labia puffing as part of a broader vaginal rejuvenation programme. All are non-surgical and require no downtime.

What To Expect
Your Consultation
At our Baker Street clinic, your clinician takes a full medical history, assesses the volume loss in your labia majora and discusses your goals.
- Filler or fat transfer: how long each lasts, the recovery and the cost, so you can choose the right option for you.
- Your plan: a written treatment plan and itemised cost before you leave.
- Filler: no waiting period is needed, and treatment can often be scheduled promptly.
- Fat transfer: involves a surgical element under oral sedation, so preparation and planning take longer.
Preparing for Treatment
Preparation depends on the option you choose. Wear loose, comfortable clothing on the day.
- Filler: no special preparation. To minimise bruising, avoid blood-thinning medicines and supplements (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo) for one week before, and alcohol for 48 hours before.
- Fat transfer: stop all nicotine products at least four weeks before and four weeks after, and stop blood-thinning medicines as advised at your consultation.
- Getting home: oral sedation means you cannot drive after fat transfer, so arrange a responsible adult to take you home.
The Procedure
Both options restore volume to the labia majora: filler with hyaluronic acid, fat transfer with your own fat.
- Filler: after cleansing and a topical anaesthetic, your clinician marks the injection zones and injects the filler with needles or cannulas. Local anaesthetic can be added for comfort. It takes 20 to 30 minutes.
- Fat transfer: under oral sedation, a small amount of fat is taken from the tummy, flanks or inner thighs and processed to remove impurities.
- Fat injection: the fat is injected into the labia majora with specialised cannulas. Your surgeon deliberately over-injects, because some of the fat is absorbed.
Results and Recovery
Some swelling is normal: mild swelling and bruising for a few days after filler, and swelling at both sites for one to two weeks after fat transfer.
- After filler: results are visible immediately and you can return to normal activities the same day. Avoid strenuous exercise and sex for around a week.
- How long filler lasts: typically around 9 to 12 months, after which top-up injections maintain the volume.
- After fat transfer: most patients resume normal activities within a few days. Avoid strenuous exercise for six weeks.
- Fat transfer results: these improve over the first three months as swelling settles. The fat that survives is permanent, though a smaller top-up is occasionally needed.
FAQs
-
Labia puffing, also called a labial puff, labia filler or labia majora augmentation, restores volume to the outer lips of the vulva (the labia majora) when they have become thin, flat or wrinkled. It is done with hyaluronic acid filler for a quick, temporary result, or with your own fat for a longer-lasting one. Despite searches for “vagina puffing”, the vagina itself is not treated.
-
Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be injected into the labia majora, the outer lips, to add volume and smooth wrinkling. After cleansing and numbing cream, your surgeon marks the area and places the filler with a fine needle or small cannula, adding local anaesthetic if needed. It takes 20 to 30 minutes and can be done at the same appointment as your consultation.
-
You can plump the labia majora with hyaluronic acid filler (labia puffing), which is quick and temporary, or with labia fat transfer, which uses your own fat for a longer-lasting result. Diet and exercise cannot restore this area. The volume lost with ageing, childbirth, menopause or weight loss is in the fat pad and skin rather than muscle, so it needs to be replaced.
-
Yes. The labia majora contain a fat pad, and fast or significant weight loss, including on weight-loss injections, can shrink it, leaving the outer lips flatter, looser or wrinkled. Filler restores volume straight away. For fat transfer, it is better to wait until your weight is stable, because later weight loss also reduces the transferred fat.
-
Neither is better for everyone. Filler is non-surgical, takes about half an hour and needs no recovery time, but lasts around 9 to 12 months. Fat transfer is a minor operation with a short recovery and needs enough donor fat, but the fat that survives is permanent. Many women try filler first, then move to fat transfer.
-
The cost of labia puffing depends on the method. With filler, treatment is £1,200 and your price is confirmed in writing at consultation; a small top-up at your review is complimentary, and treatment is self-pay. Fat transfer costs more at the outset but is a one-off procedure. Finance is available through Chrysalis Finance, subject to status.
-
Labia puffing is not usually very painful. Numbing cream, and local anaesthetic if needed, is used first, so most women feel pressure rather than pain during the injections. Mild stinging, itching or tenderness for a few days afterwards is common. Ice packs, simple pain relief and loose clothing help, and you should avoid sex, swimming and strenuous exercise for around a week.
-
A labial puff with hyaluronic acid filler usually lasts around 9 to 12 months, after which your body gradually absorbs it and a repeat treatment maintains the volume. In a 2016 study of 54 women, Fasola and Gazzola found the improvement was still significant 12 months after a single treatment. Fat transfer is the permanent option: once the transferred fat has settled, the fat that survives stays.
-
Labia puffing is generally safe when a qualified doctor carries it out; at Centre for Surgery, only surgeons perform injectable treatments. The usual side effects are swelling, bruising and tenderness that settle within a few days to a week. In a 2016 series of 54 women given hyaluronic acid filler in the labia majora, Fasola and Gazzola ↗ recorded no complications. Filler carries a small risk of moving over time, but it is reversible.
