Results vary from patient to patient. All photos are published with written patient consent and are examples of outcomes achieved at Centre for Surgery, not guaranteed results. After photos were taken at least six months after surgery unless the caption says otherwise. No photograph has been retouched or filtered; some are cropped or masked only to protect patient privacy. Full disclaimer below, and how to read these photos — including why the skin, not the fat, decides most liposuction results.
Body Contouring Liposuction — Before & After
15 photographs
Liposuction removes localised deposits of fat through small incisions, reshaping the contour of an area that has not responded to diet and exercise. It is a contouring operation rather than a weight-loss one, and it is often combined with fat transfer so that fat removed from one area is used to add volume to another.

Vaser Liposuction — Before & After
4 photographs
Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound energy to loosen fat before it is removed, which allows fat to be taken more selectively — including the layer immediately beneath the skin. That is what makes higher-definition results possible. It is a tool, not a different operation, and it does not change what the skin is capable of doing afterwards.
Liposuction with Argo Plasma — Before & After
4 photographs
Liposuction removes fat. It does nothing to the skin above the fat, and where that skin is not expected to retract on its own, removing volume from beneath it can leave it looser than before. Argo plasma skin tightening addresses that directly: helium plasma energy is delivered beneath the skin through the same small access points used for the liposuction, in the same operation, causing the fibrous layer under the skin to contract.
It is an adjunct, not an alternative. It tightens skin; it does not remove skin. Where laxity is significant — after major weight loss, or after pregnancy — an excisional operation such as a tummy tuck or a thigh lift is what removes it, and no energy device substitutes for that. The cases below were treated with liposuction and Argo plasma together.
Argo plasma is one of several energy devices used this way. If you are comparing them, our Argo plasma versus BodyTite comparison sets out how the two differ.
Chin and Neck Liposuction — Before & After
12 photographs
Chin and neck liposuction — clinically, submental liposuction — removes the fat pad beneath the chin and along the front of the neck through a small incision sited in the natural crease under the chin. It is the same operation as body liposuction on a smaller scale, and the same rule governs it. The fat can always be removed. What happens next depends on whether the skin above it retracts.
That makes the before photograph unusually informative here. Where skin elasticity is preserved and fat is the whole of the problem, the jaw-neck angle emerges once the fat is taken and the result is reliable. Where the platysma muscle has separated into visible vertical cords, or the skin has lost the ability to shrink onto a smaller contour, liposuction alone undercorrects — and a neck lift is the operation that addresses it. A recessed chin is a third problem again, and one that fat removal does not solve. Full detail on technique, candidacy and recovery is on our chin and neck liposuction page.
About These Liposuction Photos
The liposuction photos above are presented for educational purposes only and should be interpreted subjectively. They do not represent the opinion or view of any patient regarding their result, and they are not intended to suggest the result that any other patient may achieve. No two patients are alike, and no two results are necessarily alike. Only a personal consultation with your surgeon can provide you with a reasonable expectation of the results you may achieve from any specific procedure. We only publish photographs of patients who have given full written consent for their images to be used.
How to Read Liposuction Before and After Photos
Almost everyone reads a liposuction gallery looking at the fat. The variable that decides the result is the skin. Fat can always be removed. Whether the skin above it shrinks down onto the smaller shape underneath is a property of the patient, not of the surgeon.
Look at the skin in the before photograph
Young, thick, elastic skin retracts. Skin that has been stretched by pregnancy or major weight change, or thinned by age, retracts less — and taking fat out from beneath it can leave it looser than it was. Two people can have identical volumes of fat removed by the same surgeon and photograph completely differently. If the before image shows skin unlike yours, the after image is not a preview. Where the skin is not expected to retract on its own, tightening can be added in the same operation — the Argo plasma cases above — and where laxity is beyond what any device will address, skin has to be cut out instead.
Liposuction is not weight loss, and the scales prove it
Even a substantial liposuction removes a small fraction of body weight. The change in these photographs is a change in shape, not in mass. Where an after photograph shows a person who is visibly leaner all over — face, arms, everywhere — something other than liposuction has also happened.
Ask whether fat was moved rather than discarded
Liposuction is frequently combined with fat transfer, so fat taken from the waist may have been placed in the buttocks or the hips in the same operation. That is two procedures, and the after photograph is showing you the result of both. It is a reasonable thing to do and an unreasonable thing to leave unstated.
Underwear, tan, posture, light
A high waistband compresses; a low one does not. A tan darkens a shadow into a contour. Standing with the weight on one leg rotates the pelvis. In a trustworthy pair, the garment, the light and the stance are identical, and the only thing that has changed is the body.
What Stage of Healing You’re Looking At
Liposuction is unusual among cosmetic operations in that an early photograph tends to understate the result rather than flatter it.
For the first weeks the treated area is swollen, bruised, firm and often numb, and a compression garment is worn for around four to six weeks. Fluid takes time to clear. At this stage the contour can look no better — occasionally worse — than it did before surgery, and patients are frequently alarmed by it.
Most swelling resolves over the first two to three months, and the contour continues to refine for several months after that. Skin retraction is the slowest process of all, and where it is going to happen, it happens over many months rather than weeks. Small areas of firmness beneath the skin are common early and soften with time.
A photograph at six weeks and a photograph at nine months are both honest, and they are not the same photograph. A gallery that never states the interval is asking you to guess.
The after photographs in this gallery were taken at least six months after surgery, unless the caption says otherwise. For what to expect at each stage before then, see our liposuction recovery guide.
What These Photographs Cannot Show You
There is a limit to what any gallery can tell you, and a clinic that pretends otherwise is selling rather than informing.
- What the skin did. The single most important variable in the result, invisible in a photograph of somebody whose skin is not yours.
- Contour irregularity. Rippling, dimpling, small dents and asymmetry between sides are recognised outcomes of liposuction and are the most common reason for dissatisfaction. They are also, by a wide margin, the thing least likely to appear in a published gallery.
- What the patient weighed on each day. A gallery cannot tell you whether someone lost six kilograms between the two frames. A surgeon can.
- Whether fat was added somewhere else, or the skin tightened. See above. The after image may be the result of more than one thing done at the same sitting.
- Numbness and firmness. Altered sensation across the treated area is normal for months and occasionally persists.
- What happens if you gain weight. Fat cells removed do not return, but the cells that remain enlarge — including in areas that were never treated. Liposuction changes where you store fat. It does not stop you storing it.
None of this is a reason to distrust before and after photographs. It is a reason to treat them as the beginning of a conversation with a surgeon rather than the end of one.
Liposuction Results: Common Questions
Does liposuction work?
Yes, for the right goal. Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from specific areas, which changes your shape. It is not a weight-loss treatment, and it does not tighten loose skin or treat cellulite. It works best for stubborn areas of fat in people close to a stable weight with reasonable skin elasticity.
How many sizes do you go down after liposuction?
There is no set answer, because liposuction changes shape more than weight. Many patients notice a change in clothing size in the treated area once swelling settles, even when the scales move little. Up to five litres of fat can be removed in a single session, and the final result usually shows at three to six months.
Can you keep losing weight after liposuction?
Yes. Liposuction removes fat cells from the treated areas, and you can continue to lose weight afterwards. If you gain weight, the remaining fat cells, including those in untreated areas, can enlarge, so keeping a stable weight protects the result.
Liposuction at Centre for Surgery
Centre for Surgery is a private hospital for plastic and cosmetic surgery on Baker Street in Marylebone, London, registered with and independently inspected by the Care Quality Commission. Our plastic surgeons perform liposuction at our Baker Street day surgery facility, including power-assisted liposuction (PAL), Vaser liposuction and 360 liposuction, in combination with fat transfer or with Argo plasma skin tightening where appropriate.
Techniques and Approach
PAL, Vaser and 360 liposuction are different instruments and different strategies for removing fat, not different results. Which is appropriate depends on the area, the volume, and the quality of your skin. At consultation your surgeon will examine you, explain what your skin is likely to do, and tell you where liposuction alone will not achieve what you are asking of it. Every plastic surgeon on our team is GMC-registered and independently verifiable on the General Medical Council register.
Aftercare and Follow-Up
Surgery is performed at our Baker Street day surgery facility. You have your surgeon’s direct number for the first 24 hours after surgery, and your surgeon will review you at regular follow-up appointments through the months during which the contour settles.
