Our plastic surgeons commonly get asked at least every week by patients, “am I too skinny for a Brazilian Butt Lift“. This is often because they have been seen and turned away by other surgeons because they do not have enough fat. So what is the actual answer to this question?
Whether a patient is a suitable candidate for a skinny BBL depends on several factors, of which the most important is the patient’s goals for treatment. Our surgeons often spend up to 1 hour during the initial consultation learning about your ideas, concerns and expectations for treatment. Taking a complete medical history and carrying out a physical examination form the foundation of assessing your suitability for a skinny BBL in London. It is always essential to bear in mind that a Brazilian butt lift procedure in the UK is not just about creating large buttocks by injecting large volumes of fat. Many leaner patients are more interested in the targeted removal of residual fat pockets from areas of the body that have proven resistant to diet and exercise and transferring this fat to enhance the projection of the buttocks. In the same procedure, your surgeon can also fill in hip dips and enhance the silhouette with 360 liposuction or lipo 360. If you have been turned away by a surgeon because it is felt that you are too skinny for a BBL, then book in to see one of our surgeons as they are highly experienced in carrying out skinny BBL surgery.

How much fat is needed for a Brazilian butt lift?
The amount of fat that is required for a skinny BBL in London depends on several factors, including the technique that the surgeon uses, the patient’s expectations for treatment, the anatomical shape, the amount of fat reserves available in the area to be treated with liposuction and the anticipated level of fat survival.

Many slimmer patients may only be aiming for a subtle change in the size and shape of the buttocks, and in this case, a smaller amount of fat for BBL may be enough. Patients looking to achieve more dramatic results should remember that up to 800 ml to 1000 ml of fat could be required for a pleasing skinny BBL result. As with all fat transfer procedures, it should be borne in mind that a small amount of fat will be reabsorbed by the body after a skinny BBL. Your surgeon always takes this into account when planning how much to harvest and how much to reinject.
What is the ideal weight for skinny BBL surgery?
The best way to determine an ideal candidate for BBL surgery is to assess the patient’s body fat percentage or BMI rather than their actual body weight. Based on the individual anatomy and body shape, this forms the basis for a more accurate assessment of how much fat can be safely removed with liposuction.

Am I too slim for a BBL?
In most cases that we see Centre for Surgery, patients who have sufficient reserves in the subcutaneous fat layer are amenable to being removed by liposuction and used for fat transfer to the buttocks. In most cases, patients will have 360 liposuction from the abdomen, flanks or thighs. Patients who may be very slim with a lower percentage of body fat may not have sufficient excess fat, which is available for the skinny BBL. In these cases, buttock augmentation with silicone implants may be an appropriate treatment option.
Many of our patients ask our surgeons if it is worth gaining weight for BBL surgery. Although it may seem like a common-sense solution to allow for sufficient fat transfer to the buttocks, it is not recommended in practice. Any fat cells that have been transferred to the buttocks can reduce if the patient subsequently loses weight, and all patients must continue to maintain a stable weight after a skinny BBL to maintain the results over time. If patients gain weight before a skinny BBL and then lose weight following the procedure, this will most likely hurt the results and may even lead to a reversal of the changes created by the skinny BBL surgery.
