Vaginal rejuvenation and labiaplasty are cosmetic gynaecology treatments aimed at women who have undergone childbirth or experienced hormonal changes as part of menopause or the ageing process. The development of vaginal laxity or labial hypertrophy often leads many women to seek help. Both types of procedures cannot only improve cosmetic appearance but our ideal for the treatment of functional symptoms including pain and discomfort during sexual intercourse. Vaginal rejuvenation has become an increasingly popular treatment in the UK although it can sometimes be misunderstood as to what it is and what type of results it can achieve for women. Here we explain what each of the two procedures actually involves for women interested in vaginal rejuvenation at our state-of-the-art central London clinics.

Labiaplasty is designed to alter the size and shape of the labia menorah or labia majora. Vaginal rejuvenation is a broad term used to describe a number of different procedures that are ultimately designed to both improve the appearance and function of the vagina to facilitate an increase in sexual fulfilment. Labiaplasty, or labia reduction, is also considered a type of vaginal rejuvenation procedure. While both procedures share a number of similarities, there are a number of fundamental differences between them. Labiaplasty involves surgery on the inner labia minora or the outer labia majora to reduce the size and may be combined with a clitoral hood reduction in many cases. Vaginal rejuvenation can involve surgery to tighten a loose vagina also known as a vaginoplasty. Perineoplasty may be combined with vaginoplasty surgery to reduce the size of the external vaginal opening. Both vaginoplasty and perineoplasty may be combined with a pelvic floor repair when the weakened walls of the vagina allow adjacent pelvic organs to bulge into it causing significant pain and discomfort. Vaginal tightening surgery is a fundamental component of vaginal rejuvenation for women concerned about their loose vagina.
How do labiaplasty results differ from vaginal rejuvenation results?
When women are deciding what is the most appropriate treatment for them, an important consideration is the results that can be achieved with either procedure. Labiaplasty is designed for women who are keen to alter the size or shape of the labia and to treat any discomfort they may be experiencing from having large labia also known as labial hypertrophy. Expected results after labiaplasty surgery are a reduction in the size of the labia to reduce discomfort during exercise or sexual intercourse as well as to improve cosmetic appearance. Labiaplasty surgery on its own does not improve vaginal tightening or improve sensation during sexual intercourse. Vaginal rejuvenation often involves a combination of cosmetic gynaecology procedures including labiaplasty. Expected results from vaginal rejuvenation surgery include a tighter vagina with increased sensitivity and an overall improved appearance of the labia and vaginal opening.
