Can You Have a Breast Lift and Tummy Tuck at the Same Time?

Yes. A combined breast lift and tummy tuck is a well-established operation, and for healthy patients it is one of the most frequently requested combinations at Centre for Surgery. Whether it is right for you depends on your general health, your anatomy, how much needs to be done and how long the operation would take. Why Combine a Tummy Tuck and Breast Lift After Pregnancy or Weight Loss?

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and significant weight change tend to affect the breasts and abdomen together. Tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) removes loose abdominal skin and tightens separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), which diet and exercise cannot correct. A breast lift (mastopexy) repositions the nipple, removes excess skin and reshapes the breast using your own tissue.

Where volume has been lost as well as lift, a lift can be combined with breast augmentation to restore fullness, and your surgeon will confirm the right combination for your anatomy at consultation.

What Are the Benefits of Combining a Breast Lift and Tummy Tuck?

• One anaesthetic: you avoid going under twice. All procedures at Centre for Surgery are performed under TIVA (Total Intravenous Anaesthesia). A longer single operation brings its own considerations, which your anaesthetist will review with you.

Is It Safe to Combine a Breast Lift and Tummy Tuck?

For healthy, well-selected patients, combined surgery is widely performed, but the published evidence is mixed and it is worth knowing both sides. A 2025 retrospective study of 670 patients ↗ found that combined aesthetic procedures carried higher complication rates than single procedures, particularly abdominoplasty combined with breast surgery or liposuction, and concluded that careful patient selection and counselling are essential^[1].

A 2025 comparison of 726 abdominoplasty patients, 15% of whom also had breast surgery ↗, reached a different conclusion: once other factors were accounted for, there was no difference in adverse events between combined mummy makeover patients and abdominoplasty alone^[2]. A 2026 single-surgeon series of 210 lipoabdominoplasties ↗, more than half combined with other procedures, mostly breast surgery, reported very few complications^[3].

These were single-centre or retrospective studies in different healthcare settings, so they cannot tell you your own risk. What they do show is that outcomes depend heavily on who is chosen for combined surgery and how the operation is planned. That is why your surgeon assesses your health, weight, smoking status and goals before recommending a combination, and why they may advise staging if the risks look higher.

When Might Staging Be Recommended Instead?

A combined tummy tuck and breast lift typically takes in the region of 3 to 5 hours, within safe limits for most healthy candidates. Your surgeon may recommend staging the procedures where:

• Additional procedures are planned, such as augmentation, liposuction of other areas or further body contouring, which can push operating time beyond what is appropriate for one session.
• Your general health or fitness for a longer procedure is a factor, as assessed at your pre-operative medical assessment.
• You would prefer to focus on one recovery at a time, which is a valid personal choice even when combining would be clinically appropriate.

One technical point: a tummy tuck pulls the abdominal skin downward, which can put some tension on the lower scars of a breast lift. This is a normal part of planning a combined procedure rather than a reason to avoid it, and your surgeon will weigh it when confirming your plan.

Can You Combine a Tummy Tuck With Breast Augmentation, Breast Reduction or a Mini Tummy Tuck?

Often, yes, with the same principles. The more you add, the longer the operation and the more carefully safety has to be weighed.

• Tummy tuck with breast augmentation or a lift with implants: widely done, but it adds operating time and is a common reason for staging.
• Tummy tuck with breast reduction: possible for suitable patients, with the same time and fitness considerations.
• Mini tummy tuck with a breast lift: a mini tummy tuck treats the lower abdomen only, so it suits people whose loose skin sits below the tummy button. Whether it is enough for you depends on how much skin and muscle laxity you have above the navel.

What Is Recovery Like After a Combined Breast Lift and Tummy Tuck?

The abdominal component governs most of the recovery timeline. In the early weeks you will avoid using your abdominal muscles to get in and out of bed, relying on your arms instead, while also avoiding heavy lifting or pulling with your arms, which is the usual advice after a breast lift. Your surgical team will explain how to manage both sets of restrictions together; in practice this mainly affects the first one to two weeks. Compression garments are worn for both areas, and a responsible adult should be available to help at home for the first week.
