Are you unhappy with the appearance of your lips? Do your lips droop down, leaving you with a sad or angry appearance? Fortunately, you can alter the appearance of your smile by having a corner lip lift.
What is a corner lip lift?
A corner lip lift works to raise the drooping corners of the lips. Drooping, downturned lips can often make a person look older than they are. As a result, a corner lip lift has become a popular procedure for both men and women of all ages.
A corner lip lift offers a more permanent solution to downturned lips than lip fillers, which would need to be redone every few months to maintain the same look.
This differs from a traditional lip lift as it only targets the corners. Meanwhile, an upper lip lift focuses on reducing the distance between the upper lip and the top of the nose. Reducing this increases the size of the lips, and makes the teeth more visible when the lips are naturally shut.
Am I eligible for a corner lip lift?
Those who have lips which have downturned corners will be able to have corner lip lift surgery. You will have to be at least 18 years old to have this procedure.
Prior to having a corner lip lift, you will need to have a consultation with one of our surgeons, who will be able to assess your lips and determine whether or not you are eligible for the procedure.
What does a corner lip lift involve?
Prior to having a corner lip lift, you will be given a local anaesthetic, so you will be unable to feel any pain or discomfort throughout the procedure.
The corner lip lift involves making an incision along the border of the lips at the corners. The surgeon will then remove a small triangular section of skin at the corner of the lips. This will cause the lips to turn upwards, rather than downwards. This will not involve any nerves or tissue, so you will experience no change in sensation to your lips or face.
The skin will then have two layers of stitches.
This can also be a beneficial procedure for those who have downturned grooves that extend from the lips to the chin, which can cause an aged appearance.
What is the recovery period like?
There will be a very short recovery period for a corner lip lift. You will be able to return home on the same day as the procedure.
You may experience some slight pain and discomfort from the incision. You may wish to take pain medication to help with any symptoms. Placing an ice pack on the area may also help with any pain or swelling.
If dissolvable stitches were not used, you will have the stitches removed after five days. While you still have the stitches, you will need to avoid wearing any makeup.
The area where the incision was made may appear red for about two weeks, but after this point will fade and will become less visible.
