Morpheus8 has quickly established itself as one of the leading skin rejuvenation treatments in the UK. Praised as a groundbreaking innovation by celebrities, beauty editors, and social media influencers alike, this radiofrequency (RF) microneedling treatment has garnered significant attention. However, as it is still a relatively new addition to the cosmetic treatment market, many of our patients often have numerous queries about what to expect both before and after the procedure.
Since we initially published this interview, there have been several updates made at our Baker Street clinic, which you can read about in our Morpheus8 pain management protocols update.
Earlier this month, we had the pleasure of speaking with one of our patients who kindly shared her personal experience with the Morpheus8 treatment. She highlighted the top three things she wished she had known prior to undergoing the procedure. Here is what she imparted to the Centre for Surgery team, in her own words.
Paying heed to the ‘social downtime’ after Morpheus8 is crucial.
I am extremely pleased with the outcome of my Morpheus8 treatment. There’s a noticeable tightening of my skin, and it doesn’t sag the way it used to. I’ve also observed a significant improvement in its texture. I appear years younger, especially in the region of my jaw and jowls.
The team at Centre for Surgery had informed me that I would experience some ‘social downtime’ for a few days following the treatment. They explained that my skin would be red and bumpy, and that I might see some marks in the shape of the applicator (imagine a square box with numerous tiny pin pricks). I didn’t take this advice particularly seriously as I’ve had several semi-invasive treatments before and my recovery has always been better than my provider’s estimations.
Rather recklessly, I arranged a dinner party for the day after my treatment. That was a mistake! My face was undeniably red, marked from the applicator, and showed a few bruises. While makeup did a decent job of covering up some of it, my guests couldn’t help but question what I had done to my face. My skin improved each day, and 2-3 days post-treatment, the only remaining signs of having had a procedure were a few bruises, which I was able to hide with makeup.
The impact on my jowls and jawline was more significant than I could have ever anticipated.
Initially, when considering Morpheus8 for my skin issues, I was somewhat apprehensive. My main concerns were my jowls and the loose, sagging skin around my jawline. Over the past few years, these issues had increasingly bothered me, leading me to try a variety of solutions. Creams, serums, and various treatments at numerous clinics were part of my routine in an attempt to combat these issues. Still, none seemed to offer the results I was seeking, leaving me somewhat sceptical about the effectiveness of yet another proposed solution.
Despite my scepticism, I chose to try Morpheus8 at the Centre for Surgery, but I have to confess that I didn’t hold out much hope. I’d been let down before by lofty promises and I was prepared for another disappointment.
However, the reality could not have been further from my expectations. From the moment I began to see the results of the Morpheus8 treatment, I was astounded. My jawline appeared more defined, and my jowls – the issue that had been bothering me for so long – seemed less pronounced. Day by day, as I observed the improvements, I wished I had taken the plunge earlier.
In retrospect, I could have saved so much time, money, and emotional energy if I had chosen Morpheus8 from the get-go. But as the saying goes, better late than never. The transformation was so significant that it surpassed even my wildest expectations, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
Having a distraction during the treatment can be really helpful.
Let me be clear, Morpheus8 isn’t exactly a walk in the park. It’s not one of those relaxing, pampering treatments that you might associate with a spa day. Some parts of the treatment can actually be quite uncomfortable, even painful. However, as a mother of four, I can confidently say it’s nothing compared to childbirth!
In the course of my treatment series, I found it quite helpful during the second and third sessions to bring along my headphones. Listening to my favourite calming music helped me disconnect from what was happening, making the entire process more bearable. It provided a kind of mental escape, and I found that when I wasn’t bracing myself for the next “zap” from the machine, I was able to relax a little more.
On top of this, my provider, Ida, was thoughtful enough to give me a squeeze ball to use during the treatment. It might sound simple, but having something to squeeze in response to the uncomfortable moments really helped manage the pain. Other pain relief measures were also provided, such as a strong numbing cream applied an hour before the treatment, and a form of ‘laughing gas’ to help me relax.
During my first treatment session, I’ll admit that I completely forgot about the squeeze ball. However, during the second and third treatments, I made a point of squeezing it consistently throughout the session. This, along with my music, truly made a difference.
And the good news is that there’s absolutely no post-treatment pain! My skin felt a bit like it does after a mild sunburn, but that’s about it. No severe discomfort or lasting pain whatsoever.
Morpheus8 is a little more intense than I initially expected, so it’s important to be prepared for that. But despite the discomfort during the treatment, I am incredibly pleased that I decided to go through with it. I have completed my round of three treatments, and I started seeing the best results around the 4-month mark. The improvement in my skin was absolutely worth those few uncomfortable moments.
It’s important to note that the experiences we’ve shared here are from one patient, and everyone’s experience with Morpheus8 or any other treatment at Centre for Surgery can be different. Each individual’s body responds uniquely to treatments, and factors such as their overall health, skin type, and age can significantly influence the outcomes and their personal experience of the procedure.
Our medical professionals spend considerable time during consultations to thoroughly discuss pre and post-treatment instructions, as well as set realistic expectations for what you can expect during and after the procedure. This is a key component of our patient care process, as we believe informed patients are the most satisfied patients.
A positive outcome isn’t guaranteed solely by the treatment itself, but is dependent on multiple factors. These can include the skill and experience of the practitioner, the patient’s adherence to post-treatment care instructions, and their individual biological response to treatment. All these variables will be discussed during your consultation to give you a comprehensive understanding of the process and help set realistic expectations.
Remember, our primary goal is your satisfaction and comfort. Centre for Surgery is dedicated to providing the best possible care and ensuring you are fully prepared for your treatment journey.
An Update on Morpheus8 Pain Management at Centre for Surgery
We at Centre for Surgery are always on the lookout for ways to improve our patients’ experiences. We understand that some of the procedures we offer, such as Morpheus8, can be somewhat uncomfortable. This is why we have been working diligently to devise methods to reduce any discomfort and make the treatment process as pleasant as possible for our patients.
We have updated our Morpheus8 pain management protocols as part of these efforts. We now offer the option of completely numbing the treatment area using lidocaine, a powerful local anaesthetic. The lidocaine can be either injected directly into the skin or applied topically, depending on the patient’s preference and the specifics of their treatment.
Based on feedback from our patients, we have found that when the treatment area is numbed using injected lidocaine, the Morpheus8 procedure becomes virtually painless. That being said, the sensation of repeated radiofrequency (RF) microneedling can still be somewhat grating to some.
As such, in line with the advice from one of our patients, we strongly recommend bringing along something to distract you during the procedure. This could be anything from your favourite music, a podcast or an audiobook. By focusing on this distraction, you’ll find it easier to relax and the treatment will seem to pass more quickly.
Our primary goal at Centre for Surgery is to ensure our patients’ comfort and satisfaction at every step of their journey. We strive to provide a holistic service that not only delivers outstanding results but also prioritises the well-being and comfort of our patients. As always, we appreciate the feedback from our patients, which allows us to continue refining our practices and protocols for the better.
